Dr. Glidden’s Health Recovery Protocol For Those Diagnosed With Seasonal Allergies

MD Cause:

  • Pollen, dust, animal dander, and the proteins in certain foods.

MD Rx: 

  • Antihistamines; Allergy shots: intra-muscular injections of the things that you are allergic to in order to desensitize your body to them.

ND Cause: 

  • Nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar imbalances, and a toxic body. Discussion: If as the MDs argue, pollen, dust and animal dander, etc. are the causes of allergies, then why isn't everybody allergic? There can be 4 people in a convertible (with the top down) driving on a country road. The car drives right through a big cloud of pine pollen. Two of the people in the car have allergic reactions to it, and the other two do not. Everybody was exposed to the pine pollen. So - what was different with the bodies of the people who reacted to the pollen? What exactly was it that caused them to become allergic, and not the other people in the car? You would think that medical science would attempt to answer this question, but it does not. Rather than attempting to figure out the cause of the allergic reaction, and come up with a cure, the allopath focuses on treatments designed to manage, suppress, and mitigate the allergic symptoms. Inquiring minds want to know: What makes more money – treatments which manage the problems, or treatments which cure the problems? 

  • An interesting footnote here is the fact that you can only be allergic to a protein. if you are experiencing any allergic symptoms whatsoever it is because your immune system is reacting strongly to the presence of a protein in your body. A common misconception about allergies is with jewelry. If people develop rashes on their skin from rings, bracelets, or necklaces, the false belief is that they have developed an allergy to copper, or gold, or silver, or whatever is in the jewelry. This of course is nonsense because there is no protein in the jewelry. These reactions are capitulated by an interaction between your perspiration and the metal in the jewelry. With people who experience these types of reactions, a weak acid is formed when their sweat mixes with the metal in the jewelry. It is an acid burn that irritates the skin, not an allergic reaction. This is also why an overdose of magnesium causes diarrhea. If you swallow too much magnesium at once, your body will not be able to absorb all of it. So - the unabsorbed magnesium passes from your small intestine into your colon. Once there, the magnesium mixes with the liquids found in the colon which creates a weak acid which irritates the walls of the colon and induces diarrhea. In effect, the body is simply attempting to eliminate the magnesium which is irritating it. 

Discussion: 

  • When people are experiencing allergies there are times during the day when they have acute flare-ups of their allergic symptoms. These flare-ups are always preceded by the consumption of food or drink which is aggravating to the system, and which in effect throws gasoline on the flames of the allergic predisposition. This is a difficult thing to track however, as the aggravation of the allergies from food or beverage consumption is delayed. It is not immediate. Usually 5 to 15 minutes after the consumption of the offending food or drink is when the allergies flare. The best way to get a handle on this is to write down on a notepad or your smart phone everything that you have had to eat or drink within 15 minutes before the flare-up. By the fourth time you keep track of these things, there will be a number of items on your notes which are similar. Those are the offenders and those are the things that you should eliminate from your diet. Perhaps it is sugar that flares up your allergies. Perhaps it is orange juice which flares up your allergies. Perhaps it is ketchup or mustard which flares up your allergies. It can be anything really, but more often than not it is something that is high in sugar. I do not know the mechanism here I just know that it is a reproducible phenomenon that if you feed somebody something high in sugar during allergy season it is more likely than not to provoke a flare-up of the allergies. If you pay attention to these triggers, then during your bad allergy season you can simply eliminate these foods and beverages from your diet, thereby greatly decreasing your suffering. 

  • A 7-day detoxification program which includes fasting and colonic hydrotherapy is recommended three times a year for the first year, then once a year after that. I discuss how to do this below. As you slowly eliminate from your body accumulated biochemical toxins, your allergic predisposition should subside. You can also follow the detoxification program outlined in the book The Toxin Solution by Joe Pizzorno, ND (see Part 2 Chapter 3). 

My Rx:

In addition to the 90 EN:

  • Cell Shield RTQ:1 bottle per 100 pounds per month in divided doses. 

  • Good Herbs Sinus & Allergy Support: During your allergic season, take 2 ml 4 times daily.  

  • Homeopathy: During an allergy “attack.” take 3 pellets every 30 minutes of one of the remedies listed below. Stop when symptoms subside. Decide which one to take by matching your symptoms to the symptoms listed after each remedy.

    • Allium cepa: acrid, burning discharge from the nose, bland discharge from the eyes.

    • Euphrasia: bland discharge from the nose, acrid and burning discharge from the eyes.

    • Wyethia: the distinguishing characteristic of this remedy is an itchiness on the roof of the mouth associated with allergies.

Days 3, 4, 5:

  • No Solid Food at all. Only drink water and fresh squeezed organic fruit/veggie juice.

Get colonic treatments on days 1,3,5,7. If possible continue with the colonic treatments on days 9, 11, 13, 15 after the detox is over.

Schedule a massage on the days you are not getting colonics. (Days 2,4,6, of the program). This is optional.

An Epsom-salts bath is a really good addition to the program. Fill a tub with hot water and 1 pound of Epsom salts. Soak in it for about 20 minutes after the Herbal Rainforest drink and before the Apple-juice cocktail each night of the program.

 

After day 7, you can finish the Sonne’s # 7 by taking 1 tablespoon 2x daily in with your 90 EN blender drinks.

You can finish the Good Herbs Kidney & Bladder Support by taking 1 teaspoon daily until it’s empty.

You can finish the N-Acetyl=L-Cysteine by taking 1 cap twice daily.

STOP taking the Psyllium Husks and the Herbal Rainforest after day 7.

 

What to Expect

 Your bowel movements in the mornings will be HUGE. This is due to the Psyllium husk powder. It bulks up the stool. You may have a great deal of energy. You may just want to sleep a lot. It is advisable to do this program when you don’t have to work. I myself have done it while holding down a regular job – but it was not easy. You may have mood swings as your body deals with the detox and with the limited calories each day. You may get night-sweats and/or experience the return of old symptoms. You should maintain the discipline of the program if you develop these symptoms as they are usually fleeting. If any symptoms are persisting after 3 days, then STOP the program and consult a wholistic physician. You may be surprised at what comes out of your body during the colon-hydrotherapy sessions (or the night after them). Remember our mottos: “Better out than in!” & “Death Begins In The Colon!” Generally speaking, after the program is over most people feel a greater sense of well-being, more energy and a better response to the nutritional program they are taking.

 

Fasting

 For most people, the longest amount of time that they go without eating in the 24 hours of the day is while they are asleep. This is why the first meal of the day is called break-fast. When you eat the first meal of the day you are breaking your overnight fast. There is only so much energy that is available to the body at any moment in time. When we are awake, the body has to give the brain energy, the heart energy, the muscles energy, the digestive tract energy, etc. When we go to sleep at night all of the physical and mental processes of the body slow down a tremendous amount, and there is an abundance of energy left over. The body uses the left-over energy that is available to it at night while you're sleeping for self-repair and healing. This is also one of the reasons why when you get sick with something (flu, head-cold, allergies, sore-throat, etc.) you become sleepy. When you are asleep your body uses the majority of its energy for self-repair and healing. During waking hours, a great deal of the body's energy is allocated towards the digestion and assimilation of the food that you have just consumed. When you stop eating, the body has more energy available to it that it can use however it sees fit. Regular periods of fasting are an interesting and important discipline for health optimization and longevity. There have been numerous studies done with animals which have unequivocally proven that the fewer calories the animal consumes the longer it lives – and the healthier it becomes. Likewise, studies of the longest-lived indigenous people on planet Earth also show correlation between limited calorie intake and longevity. From a practical point of view this only makes sense. The less that you eat, the less there is to digest, the less there is to digest the more energy the body has – which it can use for self-repair and healing. It is an interesting thing to think about but when you have given your body all of the essential nutrients that it needs with the 90 EN the only thing that you need food for are: calories to burn for energy. So – once you have eliminated the 12 bad foods from your diet, and you have filled up your body's nutritional tank with the 90 EN, your body will benefit greatly from regular periods of fasting.

There are two ways to go about fasting. Fast for one day a week, fast for three consecutive days a month, or do both. The one day a week fast seems to be the easiest for people to accomplish. On the days that you fast I still want you to take your nutritional supplements. You may have the curious experiences on the days that you don't eat that you have more energy than you anticipated, and that your mind is clearer than it normally is. From time to time on the day that you fast you may also become sleepier than usual. Whatever happens, just follow your bodies lead. If you feel like napping on the day that you are fasting, then take a nap. If you feel energized and want to do some physical activity, then go for it. I would recommend against doing anything overly exertional during the fasting days. I would not ride your trail bike for 10 miles in the mountains. I would not recommend that you play 18 holes of golf, attend a Jazzercise class, or go for a 5-mile run. Just follow your bodies lead and see what happens. After the third or fourth time that you fast you will probably start looking forward to the days when you are not eating.
